H & S Mechanical, Inc. was founded in 2008 when two union families—the Howards and the Sornbergers—set out to build a different kind of contractor. With deep roots in the trades, they shared a vision of delivering exceptional craftsmanship, dependable service, and fair pricing while creating stability for the people and families who make up the construction industry.
What began as a mechanical piping contractor quickly grew through the strength of its team and the trust of its clients. In 2013, the company expanded into structural steel fabrication and erection, followed by the addition of electrical and millwright services as demand for multi-trade expertise increased. A fabrication shop opened in Bartonville, Illinois, further strengthening H & S’s ability to deliver high-quality work and support complex projects.
Along the way, H & S continued to grow its workforce, capabilities, and reputation. The company earned federal and state certification as a Women-Owned Business Enterprise (WBE) and expanded its partnerships across multiple unions throughout Illinois, becoming one of the largest signatory specialty contractors in central Illinois.
As the company evolved beyond its mechanical roots, its name evolved as well. Today, H & S Mechanical, Inc. is now H & S Industries, Inc.—a name that reflects the full range of trades and services our team provides. While the name has changed, our commitment remains the same: the same leadership, the same skilled workforce, and the same dedication to quality and service that our clients have trusted for years.
Today, H & S Industries serves clients across industrial, commercial, healthcare, education, and government markets. Our company was built by the people who do the work—and that spirit continues to guide everything we do.
